my views on increasing periods of pe class in primary school

in japan, schools have pe classes every day. in america, 80% children take part in pe classes or extra curriculum activities on physical training. in france, more than 30% of time is used in pe classes. people from these countries always catch trophies in competitive sport as a result. obviously, the importance of physical education is no less than any other subjects in regular curriculum. besides, with the obesity at all time high, schools and society alike are encouraging children take part in activities that require physical involvement. according to the research by physical activity council, children who have physical education are less than sedentary and participate in more activities outside of school. so i strongly believe that increasing periods of pe class in primary school is very necessary.

then, what are the benefits of physical education?

first of all, physical education develops one’s learning ability. being physically active means strengthening one’s cognitive processes and sharpening one’s skills as a result. a survey shows that children who are physically fit and active often do better in the class than those who aren’t active. because physical education increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain and may boost the growth of nerve cells in the hippocampus—the brain’s center in charge of learning and memory.

as an english teacher, i’ve already introduced several physical games in teaching new words in my classes, such as running and shooting. students would learn faster and better in this way than traditional sedentary learning.

second, physical education fuels self-confidence. kids when overweight tend to blend to the wallpa-pe-r, often being ignored by others. they’re usually the targets of verbal abuse and teasing. when they engage in physical activities, they become fit and attractive which helps to build their self-confidence.

what’s more, physical education cultivates students “i can do” mentality which helps students to gradually establish the involvement of courage and confidence.

now i would like to share my experience with you. one of my students in grade five, he shows no interesting in learning english. he often bows his head and reads books in my class. he always stands still when questions come to him. in my opinion, he may think he is totally a loser in learning english. so he gives up.

once, he had a pe class. i saw smile and confidence on his face. i realized that in pe class, teacher adopted a gradual approach, step by step to develop students to overcome difficulties. also, teachers conveyed “believe that you will be more gratifying process” of information. this student must find the “i can do” mentality in pe class.

finally, physical education releases stress. often time, students, particular in their primary school, face various kinds of pressure and experience stress and anxiety. participation in physical activities can act as a stress buster for them. statistics have revealed that when a person exercises, the stress get reduced.

as can be seen, physical education contributes so much towards ma-ki-ng a child grow into an intelligent, confident, healthy and fit adult. it can be rightly said that it is not just for individual growth, but for the improvement of our society. so physical education should be made an important part of primary school curriculum.

Hold Fast to Your Dreams

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

Wow, what a dream it has been for Martin Luther King. But the changing world seems telling me that people gradually get their dreams lost somehow in the process of growing up, and sometimes I personally find myself saying goodbye unconsciously to those distant childhood dreams.

However, we need dreams. They nourish our spirit; they represent possibility even when we are dragged down by reality. They keep us going. Most successful people are dreamers as well as ordinary people who are not afraid to think big and dare to be great. When we were little kids, we all dreamed of doing something big and splashy, something significant. Now what we need to do is to maintain them, refresh them and turn them into reality. However, the toughest part is that we often have no ideas how to translate these dreams into actions. Well, just start with concrete objectives and stick to it. Don’t let the nameless fear confuse the eye and confound our strong belief of future. Through our talents, through our wits, through our endurance and through our creativity, we will make it.

Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams go, life is a barren field frozen with snow. So my dear friends, think of your old and maybe dead dreams. Whatever it is, pick it up and make it alive from today.

Make Every Moment Count

One night, I complained to my mom about the lack of time. Finally she said,"you are short of time just because you waste precious minutes on complaints and anxiety. The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit in some thing more."

It is the same with filling the jar. Even if you place a dozen fist-sized rocks and a bucket of gravel into the jar, there is still space for sand and water between the rocks and gravel.

The lack of time is just the excuse for my negligence of every single minute. I believe that the great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in six words,"I did not have enough time."The fact is I do have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein. The point is I have never touched upon the real meaning of life which lies in snatching, seizing and enjoying every minute of it. No idleness, no delay, no procrastination, no complaint! It is during my moments of complaining or hesitation that my destiny is shaped. Once I make full use of every moment, I believe that, my worries will be gradually cut down to nothing.

Time is the most valuable of all our possessions, but the most perishable as well. As Henry David Thoreau said,"You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment."

Whenever I fell the lack of time in the future, I will tell myself "Carpe diem , seize the day, make every moment count."

No One Can Be Perfect

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Today I want to tell you a story about one of my friends, a lovely and smart girl who is always ready to help others. Being our grade leader, she is good at both work and study. In many people's opinion, she is excellent and perfect. But one day she told me she was gloomy and insecure. People around her considered her outstanding and flawless, thinking she could handle everything. But the more she thought about herself, the more disappointed she became. She found that she was far from perfection. Last week, she didn’t do well in her French quiz, and the day before yesterday, she was late for a conference. She felt depressed and frustrated, because she failed to be a perfect girl without any mistakes.

I was surprised to hear that for I thought she had every reason to be confident. However, the expectation of perfection has become a burden to her. I told her no one could be perfect and I suggested she find her own position.

In fact, people are so eager to be perfect that they demand too much of themselves. They want to be special and unique, and they want to have no defects or weaknesses. However, we can never avoid mistakes and errors. It’s impossible for us to be a superman or a superwoman. No matter how successful we are, there are always some flaws. If we hold that everything should be perfect, we would be overcritical.

My friend now has changed her attitude. She accepts her shortcomings but still keeps a positive outlook. She is even more active and doesn’t allow the mistakes to hinder her pursuit of excellence. And I think that’s the way we should be!That’s all. Thank you!

Never Give Up

“If I could reach higher, just for one moment to touch the sky…”---this is from my favorite song Reach.

When we are appreciating the passionate melody of Gloria Estefan, we could hardly imagine that she could return to the stage after her paralysis. In the year 1990, this Cuban singer was knocked down in a traffic accident, and the doctor declared that she might never walk again. But Gloria did not give up and kept up constant exercising. Just one year after the disaster, she stood up again and presented this encouraging song at the Atlanta Olympics.

Whenever I think of Gloria, I can’t help recalling my memory seven years ago, when I first entered university. Naturally shy, ordinary looking, average scores in study, just like an ugly duckling, I seemed to be the least outstanding one in my class. And the successive failures in the beginning led me into despair. “Am I destined to take the back seat to others?” Unwilling to submit to the fate, I paid more efforts on my study as well as many other activities, film dubbing, recital, drama… cause I just want to catch every little opportunity to prove myself. Constant effort yields sure success. Thanks to the competition, I received some awards and most of all, I gained the courage and confidence to face any difficulties in my life journey.

Life is just like farming, and what you can reap depends a lot on your sowing and dedication. Once you have a dream, don’t be hesitant. Your next difficult step may be the one to the top. Keep going forward, even in the toughest time, and never give up.

The Importance of Keeping Optimistic

Honourable judges, ladies and gentlemen,

Good afternoon! Today I would like to talk about the importance of keeping optimistic. When we encounter difficulties in life, we notice that some of us choose to bury their heads in the sand. Unfortunately, however, this attitude will do you no good, because if you will have no courage even to face them, how can you conquer them? Thus, be optimistic, ladies and gentlemen, as it can give you confidence and help you see yourself through the hard times, just as Winston Churchill once said, “An optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity; a pessimist sees a calamity in every opportunity.”

Ladies and Gentlemen, keeping optimistic, you will be able to realize, in spite of some hardship, there’s always hope waiting for you, which will lead you to the ultimate success. Historically as well as currently, there are too many optimists of this kind to enumerate. You see, Thomas Edison is optimistic; if not, the light of hope in his heart could not illuminate the whole world. Alfred Nobel is optimistic; if not, the explosives and the prestigious Nobel Prize would not have come into being. And Lance Armstrong is also optimistic; if not, the devil of cancer would have devoured his life and the world would not see a 5-time winner of the Tour De France.

A rose may be beautiful, or maybe not; that depends on your attitude only, and so does success, so does life. Hindrances and difficulties do exist, but if you are optimistic, then they are only episodes on your long way to the throne of success; they are more bridges than obstacles! Now I prefer to end my speech with the great British poet Shelley’s lines: “If winter comes, can spring be far behind?” Thank you!

Enjoying Hanfu, Enjoying Your Life

When you listen to the song hongyanjie, what 's the first thing comes into your mind? Kinds of beautiful ladies. ancient China with its beautiful clothes. In TV But look at us, can you feel traditional culture atmosphere with the cloths we wearing? Can you imagine preform jing hong dance with the clothes we wear? Most people think Tangzhuang represent the traditional Chinese garment. But Hanfu we Han people wear has a recorded history of more than 3000 years and long than tangzhuang. Today, I will show you the development of Hanfu in nowadays.

Let’s start with the disadvantages to revive Hanfu. The movement gets many pressures generally from many people do not support and government’s ignorance. People do not support the revival of Hanfu because they don’t know the history of Hanfu and do not know to appreciate the beautiful design structure of Hanfu.

Come to the history of Hanfu, at the origin of ancient China, we call it Huafu named by Huangdi as national identity Huaxia mingzu. From that, Emperor Yao and Shun ruled the country with the help of cloth system. In another word, cloth system stand for set of etiquette. The Shang dynasty (1600BC-1000BC) developed it in many aspects. What’s more, the Emperor Qin shihuang unify huafu system and provided a clothes model for rest dynasty. Finally, Hanfu was named by ethic minorities to distinguish their clothes Hufu. That is to say, the traditional clothes of Han people is Hanfu rather than Tangzhuang for man people.

Many people do not know how to appreciated beautiful structure of Hanfu is another disadvantages to revive Hanfu. From two picture, you know it. Firstly, shangyi xiashang system is that wear a coat of the upper body and wear a skirt of our lower body.

Secondly, shenxi system is that sew the coat and skirt together. Hanfu is composed by ling jin ren jin ju xiu

jue dai qu. It shows people’s understanding of beauty and courtesy.

We have spoken so far of the reason why Hanfu do not supported by majority in history and structure, but above all it is no specific measures made by government.

China is the only country in the world without national clothes as the same time with long history. The Chinese government ignore the movement until 2015 Olympic Games, rejected to use Hanfu as the national costume in the opening ceremony. But the Government worry too much to think that the Hanfu revival will lead narrow-mind nationalism.

In discussing the disadvantages of Hanfu revival, we will look advantages in the proceeding.

The advantages of it are more teenagers’ involvement and market demanding. The Hanfu movement has begun since 2003, when a man named Wang letian wore Hanfu publicity which echo college students and many universities students have stared Hanfu union

wearing Hanfu in their daily life. Baidu Hanfu post become one of the biggest post in the internet. With the more concerning paid on Hanfu, more people want to wear Hanfu as usual clothes. As 80s、90s in China will be the main force in feature, more people prefer to wear our traditional clothes Hanfu with fashion

elements. In 2012 Hanfu brand broadcast press "shi li chun qiu", Hanfu designer provide a compound style with modern elements.

Whether Hanfu will be our usual clothes or not is depending on every one.

As we have seen, the long time we haven’t familiar with Hanfu , the more difficult for us to revive Hanfu, but more people are determined to call Hanfu back to our life. I prefer Hanfu living in our life, rather than just live in TV program.
