another problem is how to r ead . her e, i would offer two suggestions : concent r ation and reflection . you cannot well unde rstand what is said in book s unless you concent ra te your mind on what you read . and then you must think ove r what you have read . t his is reflection which helps to s ummarize your reading . to a grea t extent , concentr ation and reflection a reinte rdependent .
a reading habit thus formed will prove valuable to you . whenever you have spare time, you will resor t not to places of pleasur e, but to the bookshelves , you will not feel lonesome when you are alone, because you can see all kinds of char acte rs moving and acting on the pages , and you can hear all kinds of good counsel . in the long r un , your imaginative power will beinc reased , your esthetic sensibility height ened , your vocabula ry enlarged , and finally your ability of writing tr emendously improved .
