Becoming an Employee or Postgraduate after Graduation
As the day of graduation draws near, college students have to make decisions about their future life.Whether one wants to become a postgraduate or look for a job largely depends on ones personal interests.
For those who are eager to become economically independent and to put into practice what they have learned in college, taking a job will be both satisfying and rewarding. For years, they have been using their parents money to support their education-and not without a sense of guilt. Moreover,at many times during their study, they must have been embarrassed by the lack of money or the guilty feeling of spengding their parents money on “l(fā)uxuries”.Getting established as a bread-winner after graduation is their main desire.
Those, who want to take advantage of the favorable conditions in college, however, will try to enroll in graduate programs. For them,a Masters degree or even a Doctoral degree represents a much more ambitious goal than a bachelors degree. In the same way, their lifetime success and interest lies more in academic achievements than in making money.
As far as I am concerned, getting a higher degree has long been my dream. This is based on my belief that I should do more research and learn more while I am still young.
Dear Shitou,
So great to receive your letter on May 1st, in which you inquired about my plan after graduation. Now, I am writing to illustrate it and my accounts。 As is known to all, so many graduates are eager to set feet on their work-life roads. According to a survey by National Department of Education, more than six million college students will leave the so called “Ivory Tower” this year. It is clear that the competition of job-hunting will be extremely furious. On the contrary, it seems advisable for me to further my study and get a masters degree. What makes me convinced is that a higher degree and better educational background will, undoubtedly, enable me to make full preparation for entering the society. Besides, if possible, I will get involved in social and practical activities in my spare time. Taking all aspects into account, I choose to study as a postgraduate.
Many thanks for your concern.
Best wishes!
We used to say "Graduation is unemployed".It sounds like a self deprecating. In fact, this is not only a kind of graduates in the government, especially fun themselves before the increasingly serious social problem.
But now the phenomenon of building own business has been bought to public attention. This is a new way of university students’ undertaking, which will be of great significance for both themselves and the society.
Nowadays, many college students are attempting to star their own business instead of being employed. They decide to devote themselves to the career. Actually, building own business has many advantages. On the one hand, eliminate the unemployment, does not exist university graduates to find a job and worried. On the other hand,it can help students grow up quickly and cultivate young people’s social responsibilities. They don’t experience too much before they enter the society. However, they must experience a lot when building own business . Most of those things are not learned in school. And that can help them grow up quickly.
In my opinion,we should call on more students to make contributions using their knowledge acquired in the university. The government and the state shall enact relevant laws to help them.

48.Directions: Write an essay based on the following chart. In your writing, you shouldinterpret the chart, andgive your commentsYou should write about 150 words on the ANSWER SHEET. (15 points)
Given is a pie chart, clearly illustrating the striking contrasts in college students’ reading purposes on mobile phones in a certain university. Overall, the aim of learning ranks the first, accounting for 58%. Then, the next is searching for information, with 28%, followed by entertainment, at 12%.
These statistics above can be associated with the importance of mobile phones in students’ learning and daily life, but what result in the differences? On the one hand, smart phones are characterized by the diverse and powerful functions, which brings them great convenience and enhance their learning efficiency. A typical example is that they, with cell phones, can take online courses and look for useful information anywhere. On the other hand, compared with others, university students suffer greater mental stress, so they relax by listening to music or watching videos on phones.
As a youngster, I believe that we should use mobile phones in a rational way. Meanwhile, it is not advisable for anyone to be addicted to online games or social networks.

We often read in novels how a seemingly respectable person or family has some terrible secret which has been concealed from strangers for years. The English language possesses a vivid saying to describe this sort of situation. The terrible secret is called ‘a(chǎn) skeleton in the cupboard’. At some dramatic moment in the story, the terrible secret becomes known and a reputation is ruined. The readers hair stands on end when he reads in the final pages of the novel that the heroine, a dear old lady who had always been so kind to everybody, had, in her youth, poisoned every one of her five husbands.
It is all very well for such things to occur in fiction. To varying degrees, we all have secrets which we do not want even our closest friends to learn, but few of us have skeletons in the cupboard. The only person I know who has a skeleton in the cupboard is George Carlton, and he is very proud of the fact. George studied medicine in his youth. Instead of becoming a doctor, however, he became a successful writer of detective stories. I once spent an uncomfortable weekend which I shall never forget at his house. George showed me to the guest-room which, he said, was rarely used. He told me to unpack my things and then come down to dinner. After I had stacked my shirts and underclothes in two empty drawers, I decided to hang one of the two suits I had brought with me in the cupboard. I opened the cupboard door and then stood in front of it petrified. A skeleton was dangling before my eyes. The sudden movement of the door made it sway slightly and it gave me the impression that it was about to leap out at me. Dropping my suit, I dashed downstairs to tell George. This was worse than ‘a(chǎn) terrible secret’; this was a real skeleton! But George was unsympathetic. ‘Oh, that,’ he said with a smile as if he were talking about an old friend. ‘Thats Sebastian. You forget that I was a medical student once upon a time.

The picture vividly depicts a lovely American girl in traditional Chinese costume with a sweet smile on her face. She wears ribbons, necklaces and other accessories that are characteristic of the clothes of a certain Chinese minority group. Undoubtedly, the costume has added oriental charm/glamour to her beautiful look/appearance/features.
What the picture conveys goes far beyond only/merely a new fashion trend. Instead, it carries cultural meanings/implications as well. The fact that people from different countries are attracted to mysterious Chinese culture indicates that to some extent a culture can be accepted, respected, appreciated and shared internationally. In other words, a nation’s unique/distinctive culture can become international through worldwide economic and cultural exchanges. Since the trend of globalization become irresistible, the increasing cultural exchanges can effectively improve mutual understanding and friendship.
It is my view that national culture as priceless spiritual treasure should be preserved and cherished. Meanwhile, there are good reasons to advocate international culture for those ideas from the other cultures, controversial or even absurd at first sight, can provide a different perspective for us to observe the world in the long run. Nevertheless, when we are confronted with a different culture, we should be sensible enough to absorb its essence and to resist its dark side. Only in this way can we promote cultural development positively and make our world dimensional, colorful and vigorous.

To Respect the Old and Love the Young
How impressive the set of pictures are! In the first picture, the mother takes the daughter by the hand, while after thirty years the daughter hold her mother’s hand which is depicted in the second picture.
The meaning conveyed in the two pictures reveals that to respect the old and love the young is the traditional virtue and should be passed on from one generation to another. In real life, our parents not only give us life but do much in bringing us up. As the time goes on, they grow so physically weak that they no longer have the power to support themselves. So it is human nature for us to take our responsibility of taking care of them when they are old. Meanwhile, the virtue of willing to support the graying parents should be educated among Chinese people, no matter how young they are. It is necessary to drill the idea to the young all the time, so that they can better respect the older in future.
With love for the young, our society will be full of sunshine; with respect for the old, our country will be harmony and prosperous.

Dear Mr. Wang,
It was very kind of you to give me this opportunity to work as an editor, but now I am very sorry to say that I have to quit my present job.
The chief reason is that I find the job is not as challenging as I have thought. I have been asked to do the jobs of checking and proofreading instead of accomplishing creative tasks such as inventing and formulating. Besides, the pay also turns out to be lower than my expectation.
I am sure that my working experience here will benefit me in my future career. I do apologize for any inconvenience cause by my resignation, and I wish you all the best.
Best regards.
Yours sincerely,
Li Ming

the table clearly reflects the statistics of job satisfaction of the staff in a certain company. according to the data given above, we may conclude that the percentage of people satisfied with their jobs is highest among those over 50 years old, at about 40%. meanwhile, the proportions of the personnel feeling hard to say are the same between those under 40 and over the age of 50, at about 50%. in contrast, the figure of the staff not satisfied with their jobs is about 64% among those between the age of 41 and 50, the highest among all the three categories.
the major determinant lies in people’s various attitudes. on the one hand, the staffs between the age of 41 and 50 usually have to undertake their responsibilities and pressure from both their families and their career. sometimes they even go to extremes, and frantically pursue money, power, high social status, and so on, which are all symbols of success—but never of satisfaction. on the other hand, people over the age of 50 always shift their life’s goal from ultimate success to a relatively easy and comfortable life, and therefore become much more satisfied with their jobs.
in view of the above reasoning, i am convinced that it is difficult for everyone to be content with their jobs, and that it is advisable for each person to adjust his or her understanding of job satisfaction to reality. it is also clear to me that, despite the diverse attitudes towards one’s career, true satisfaction probably derives from a positive attitude.

From the first simple but compelling cartoon we can see that a young girl is making great efforts on her schoolwork with earnest expressions, which successfully captures our eyes. On the contrary, what is differently delineated in the second photo is that a lazy boy is not reading but lying on the sofa with an unfold book and a pen on the book desk. Apparently, by the contrast of these two pictures, the explicit implication emerges in front of us that the power of good habits should be attached great importance to.
Various functions, as a matter of fact, are behind this quality illustrated in this picture out as far as I know the following two matter enormously. To begin with, scheduling is the art of planning your activities so that you can achieve your goals and priorities in the time that you have available. When its done effectively, it helps you understand what you can realistically achieve with your time and work steadily toward your personal and career goals; In addition, here is the other point that no one can ignore. It is universally admitted that it takes time to change a habit, and procrastination is a habit that requires a little bit of effort to overcome. Task aversion, distractibility and impulsiveness are common types of procrastination. And they are the easiest to overcome if we make a good schedule in advance.
Based on the afore-said discussion, it is advisable for us to take steps to carry forward the quality. All in all, it is high time to strengthen people’s awareness in this aspect. Only in this way can we make the best of reasonable scheduling and embrace a bright future.

by the mid-nineteenth century, the term icebo had entered the american language, but ice was still only beginning to affect the diet of ordinary citizens in the united states. the ice trade grew with the growth of cities. ice was used in hotels, taverns, and hospitals, and by some forward-looking city dealers in fresh meat, fresh fish, and butter. after the civil war( 1861-1865),as ice was used to refrigerate freight cars, it also came into household use. even before 1880,half of the ice sold in new york, philadelphia, and baltimore, and one-third of that sold in boston and chicago, went to families for their own use. this had become possible because a new household convenience, the icebo, a precursor of the modern refrigerator, had been invented.
making an efficient icebo was not as easy as we might now suppose. in the early nineteenth century, the knowledge of the physics of heat, which was essential to a science of refrigeration, was rudimentary. the commonsense notion that the best icebo was one that prevented the ice from melting was of course mistaken, for it was the melting of the ice that performed the cooling. nevertheless, early efforts to economize ice included wrapping up the ice in blankets, which kept the ice from doing its job. not until near the end of the nineteenth century did inventors achieve the delicate balance of insulation and circulation needed for an efficient icebo.
but as early as 1803, and ingenious maryland farmer, thomas moore, had been on the right track. he owned a farm about twenty miles outside the city of washington, for which the village of georgetown was the market center. when he used an icebo of his own design to transport his butter to market, he found that customers would pass up the rapidly melting stuff in the tubs of his competitors to pay a premium price for his butter, still fresh and hard in neat, one-pound bricks. one advantage of his icebo, moore eplained, was that farmers would no longer have to travel to market at night in order to keep their produce cool.

everyone says,” there is always a gap between imagination and reality, the former is always more ideal than the latter.” although most people know that we cannot equate imagination with reality, people still find it hard to resist the temptation of imagination, for it is so sweet and wonderful, especially for me when i was working hard for my university dream in high school.
endless homework, heavy pressure couldn’t prevent me from drawing a fascinating picture of the university life in my mind. students are sitting leisurely on the green lawn, playing romantic songs with the guitar, or walking along the tree-lined pathway, talking and laughing heartily… i imaged a large and beautiful campus, bright, clean classrooms, and cheap, tasty food. reality is, on most occasion, inferior imagination.
when i was a university student, i found what i had imagined was far beyond reality. instead of sitting on the lawn singing songs, the students were seen reciting english tets aloud; instead of walking cheerfully along the small paths, they were walking hurriedly with books under their arms. i never epected to live on the sith floor, the highest story. every day i had to drag myself to my room after class, out of breath. and the meals disappointed me too.
when imagination and reality were naked before each other, i couldn’t deny a kind of comple feelings in my heart. how could i put the english books aside to read pastime books? how could i play while others were found me leaving late in the evening?
in the face of reality, imagination is beautiful, while reality can teach us much eperience, which we cannot obtain from imagination.

As is illustrated in the chart, significant changes have occurred in Chinas total express business volume and rural express business volume from 2018 to 2020. The total number is roughly 51 billion in 2018,64 billion in 2019 and around 83 billion in 2020.Similarly.the number of Chinese rural express packages in 2018 is 12 billion, while the number jumped dramatically to 30 billion in 2020.
What accounts for the increase? From my perspective, at least three factors contribute to the changes. To begin with, the availability of computers and smartphones is the foremost contributor and the rapid development of information technology enables nearly everybody to have access to the Internet. More importantly, the change is closely related to the rising income of the Chinese people, especially the residents living in rural areas. Finally, the changes are enhanced and promoted by the governments bettering policies as well as the more convenient channels in the e-commerce field.
With the development of Chinas economy and society, the rising trend is bound to continue for a couple of years in the future. As far as I am concerned, its a positive trend and should be encouraged.

The Significance of the Immaterial Culture Heritage Education in Improving University Students’ National Spirit
Immaterial culture heritage refers to various forms of traditional culture including traditional performance, folk activities, and a lot of national ceremony and celebration, which is close related to the life of common people and passed on from generation to generation. Against the background that China’s traditional culture is facing an unprecedented challenge propelled by internationalization and modernization, it’s imperative to educate graduates with China’s immaterial culture heritage to strengthen their national spirit and national identity. Firstly, being a part of the conveyors of immaterial culture heritage, university students will naturally be proud of their nationality. Secondly, such education can motivate them to love their history, culture motherland and compatriots. Finally, university students can bring innovative spirit into the process of learning and strengthen their national spirit in practice.
