　　Hello, ladies and gentlemen. It’s great to be here. First of all, thanks for your coming. Tonight, what I am gonna talk about is innovation. Who can tell me what is innovation? We all know that, since 1978, China has been through the greatest changes brought by the reform and opening-up. So what we can see from the reform and opening-up? The power of innovation. That’s why I am here. I am here to show you my Chinese dream. I want to talk about the future and how we're going to win it.

　　My major is XXX. My job is to discover or create new drugs for many diseases like cancer. You know that laboratory is the place where miracles happen. Believe it or not. What I do can save millions of people’s lives. For a long time, what challenges me is how to commercialize research. You come up with a great idea, but moving that new discovery from theory to practice or from the lab to the marketplace, that's really a big job. That’s what we should focus on. We need to act with a sense of urgency-to study and work and create as if the fate of the country depends on us-because it does. It depends on us. Thank you!

　　Our new president Xi Jinping came up with the dream of the Chinese nation's rejuvenation on December 29, 20xx. He said: the Chinese dream is a dream of national strength prosperity and people's happiness. Our people have an ardent love for life. 　　When I saw the titile of this essay I am supposed to be writing about, all I felt were its broadness and abstractness. Though I am a Chinese myself, it had always seemed complicated to tell how much exactly my nationality meant to me until that unforgettable experience in the Chinese Embassy at the U.K, which made a significant difference to my life. Only when I was abroad did I realize how proud I always was for my great country and clarify the relationship between China and me, referring it to that between a mother and a child desperate for help.

　　It was in the London Heathrow International Airport that our passports and airplane tickets were stolen a few minutes before the plane took off. Despaired and tired as we were, we wandered on the flourishing streets of London and felt isolated from all the nearby lighthearted laughters. It didn't take a long time for the lingering homesickness hit us and reminded us of the Chinese Embassy at the U.K that might be our sheet anchor. Ages passed while we walked to the embassy, suffering from hunger and helplessness with every step we took. Sure enough, our eyes were unconsciously filled with tears when we finally reached the spot. I was taken by surprise when the brightly-colored Chinese national flag broke through the darkness and appeared once again in front of my eyes, recalling all the pleasure I had at home. It suddenly felt as if I was taken home, a home where all my fear and anxiety vanished and replaced by the hope and warmth that ran all over my body to cheer me up. The ambassadors were all amiable Chinese officers and the familiar Chinese accent drew me closer to my motherland where we received the only help. The ambassadors made us noodles in the familiar Chinese way and settled the accommodation for us. I had tears running down my cheeks when the hot noodles, smelled as pleasant as my mother's at home, filled my stiff empty stomach because I knew I was safe in the arms of my compatriots and there was no need to be worried anymore for I knew I was home.

　　We successfully returned to Beijing the next day and I still couldn't forget the moment when I felt so much closer to my motherland than any other time given, as though our hearts were beating in one melody. Had my motherland not saved the day, we would never came back home so quickly without any restriction. For that one brief second when I was handed the brand new passport with a Chinese flag printed on it, my heart was overflowed with the pride for my own nation because never has a country I known connected to its people so close as the way my motherland and us related. I was like a child, crying and desperate for help while my mother China is the harbor to hold me, this small vulnerable boat. Even though I was out of home, my motherland remained inseparated from me no matter how far I go and is always there to help me back on track whenever in need. I wish you a happy birthday, China. I am so proud of you not only because of your obvious amazing pace in economical development, but also due to the relieved and warm way I felt when I was abroad and enjoyed your ray of love shone on my body and heart. You are the spirits dancing in my blood, the strength holding up my body and and essence making up my soul. I am so honored as a Chinese, a member of this dynamic and loving country. For your development and future, it is my responsibility to settle you safely through all the numerous difficulties until we finally make it to the bank where happinese and prosperity is waiting. 　　in my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class who worked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons.

　　the teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected a lot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, i always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself.

　　one day before the final exam, she came up to me and said, could you please explain this to me? i want very much to do better this time. i started explaining, and finished in a hurry. pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, i ran off quickly. nat surprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam. and two months later, at the beginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer. no one ever knew about the little task i failed to fulfill, but i couldn’t forgive myself. i simply couldn’t forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, why didn’t you do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for you? why didn’t you understand a little better the trust placed in you, so that i would not have to leave this world in such pain and regret?

　　i was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was the very starting point of my life, for i began to understand the word responsibility and to learn to always do my duties faithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need and trust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the very foundation of human society.

　　later in my life, i continued to experience many failures. but never again did i feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes my heart satisfied to think that i have always done everything in my power to fulfill my responsibilities as best i can.

　　as i grew up, changed and improved by this incident and many other similar ones, i began to perceive the changes taking place around me and to find that society, in a way, was in its formative years like myself. new buildings, new commodities and new fashions appear every day.

　　new technologies. people can talk with each other from any corner of the earth in a matter of seconds. society is becoming more competitive.

　　&nds. society is becoming ike individuality and creativity are getting more emphasis and more people are rewarded for their hard work and efforts. such is the era in which this generation ,grows and matures.

　　such is the era in which this generation will take over the nation from our fathers and learn to run it. yet in the meantime, many problems still exist.

　　we learn that crimes take place in broad daylight with crowds of people looking on and not assisting. we hear that there are still about 1 million children in this country who can’t even afford to go to elementary schools while enormous sums of money are being squandered away on dinner parties and luxury cars.

　　we buy shoddy medicines, or merely worthless junk in the name of medicines, that aggravate, rather than alleviate our diseases since money, many people believe, is the most important thing in the world that must be made, even at the expense of morality and responsibility.

　　such an era, therefore, determines that we are a generation with a keener sense of competition and efficiency and a greater readiness to think critically and act creatively.

　　such an era, furthermore, demands, that we are a generation with a clear perception of our historical responsibility and an aggressive will to take action and solve the problems. history has long been preparing these qualities in this generation and it is now calling us forward to give testimony to our patriotism and heroism towards this nation and all humanity.

　　standing here now, i think of the past 15 years of my life as an ordinary student. probably i’ll be an ordinary man for the rest of my life. but this doesn’t discourage me any, for i know that with my sense of responsibility and devoted efforts to always strive, for the best, it’s going to be a meaningful and worthwhile life that i will be living.

　　after my entry into university, i found my life so busy. what i should do is not only gaining the scholarship but also being a good monitor and leader of shanghai university percussion band. i got the 1st and 2nd price of scholarship in my 2 years of study. i organized charity donations for schoolmates with financial difficulty or disease. every week, i give drum lesson to new members of our percussion band. and there are always a lot of non-business performances, such as entertaining guests, celebrating party, cultural exchange with foreign students delegations and their bands. of course, part-time job is indispensable in my vacations. i ask for no payment but aim at getting accustomed to the society.

　　sometimes, my friends advise me not to tire myself out with such a tight schedule. i wake up before the rooster crow, and continue working till very late when others are enjoying their sweet dreams. every time i come back from the rehearsal of percussion band, i have to finish my homework with the help of my own charged light because of the blackout in out dormitory. maybe such kind of life is something like an ascetic, but we should work hard and try hard in our youth, aren’t we?

　　when i represented shanghai university to take part in the pond’s new century lady competition held in may, when i show off on the stage, when i emerged as “the girl of vitality”, i made use of every bit of time to compensate the classes i had missed, i made use of every chance to learn from other girls with vitality, versatility and intelligence, i made use of this opportunity to present our university students’ state of mind.

　　there is a little bitterness in my busy life, but at the same time, there is sweetness. it is colorful. i make fun out of it. i love it. when i snatch a little leisure i lie on the green grass, reading books, i cripple myself in the window-seat in our library---the 2nd largest in shanghai---i absorb knowledge like a hungry sponge, i wonder along the bank of river, listening to oriels in willows and get a splendid sunset view of the campus. the sky is drunk with the sunset; i am drunk with the sweetness of my like.

　　besides study, music is the most important part of my life. i began to learn piano at 6 and drum at 11. in school, i teach students to play jazz drums, kettledrums, xylophone and so on. we give performances in many universities to popularize percussion and to bring music to them. i’ve learned drums for so many years and it can’t be separated from my life now. it is my beating heart, my pulse, veins and arteries. when i play it, i wanna move my body, i can sit on my chair anymore i can’t help swinging i communicate with the audience i call upon them to join me with the beat of drums the rhythm of music and the fragmence of youth. hi, come on!

　　in one summer vacation, i volunteered to teach my neighborhood community and taxi drivers to learn 100 english sentences for apec. i made great efforts to walk out of my air-conditioned room and walk into the hot and suffocating weather. some of these people didn’t have the opportunity to get good education, and even didn’t know abc! i tried hard to find and easy way to teach them. for example, how to remember “the oriental tv tower”? i put “tower” as in shanghai dialect. it is not the right way to teach and learn english like this, but actually it is the only way. in the end of my vacation, they could use some daily language. i was so glad and thought my efforts rewarding. being a volunteer, i mould myself serve the people and welcome the coming apec. being a university student living in ivory tower, i feel the hardness of taxi driver. it was at that time that i cherished most my opportunity to study in shanghai university which enjoys the first rate facilities in china. i will work hard and contribute myself to our country in the future.

In other words, it is not easy to be realized. I have a dream: to pass CET-6 before I graduate from the university. 　　I have been studying English for about 10 years. It should not be the No.1 task in my university agenda, but too many failures forced me to do so. I entered one of the most famous universities in China with the almost lowest English mark among all my students. I was really disappointed about that. Although I was not good at English when I was in the middle school, it was not at least about the average. I had no strength to face the frustration. After a semester's study I was the lowest indeed. I have never cried for study before, but this time I shed tears. Since then I made up my mind to pass CET-6 before my graduation. Glanced back to my English studying experience, I realized that interest is one of the key factors to grasp knowledge. I study English only for the examination before, but not the language itself.
