Dogs are social animals and without proper training, they will behave like wild animals. They will soil your house, destroy your belongings, bark excessively, fight other dogs and even bite you. Nearly all behavior problems are perfectly normal dog activities that occur at the wrong time or place or are directed at the wrong thing. The key to preventing or treating behavior problems is learning to teach the dog to redirect its normal behavior to outlets that are acceptable in the domestic setting.

One of the best things you can do for your dog and yourself is to obedience train it. Obedience training doesn’t solve all behavior problems, but it is the foundation for solving just about any problem. Training pens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Effective communication is necessary to instruct your dog about what you want it to do.

Training is also an easy way to establish the social rank order. When your dog obeys a simple request of “come here, sit,” it is showing obedience and respect for you. It is not necessary to establish yourself as top dog or leader of the pack (群) by using extreme measure. You can teach your dog its subordinate (從屬的) role by teaching it to show submission to you. Most dogs love performing tricks for you to pleasantly accept that you are in charge.

Training should be fun and rewarding for you and your dog. It can enrich your relationship and make living together more enjoyable. A well-trained dog is more confident and can more safely be allowed a greater amount of freedom than an untrained animal.

  21. Behavior problems of dogs are believe to ________.

  A) be just part of their nature

  B) worsen in modern society

  C) occur when they go wild

  D) present a threat to the community

  22. The primary purpose of obedience training is to ________.

  B) make the dog aware of its owner’s authority

  C) provide the dog with outlets for its wild behavior

  D) enable the dog to regain its normal behavior

  23. Effective communication between a dog and its owner is ________.

  A) essential to solving the dog’s behavior problems

  B) the foundation for dogs to perform tasks

  C) a good way to teach the dog new tricks

  D) an extreme measure in obedience training

  24. Why do pet dogs love performing tricks for their masters?

  A) To avoid being punished.

  B) To show their affection for their masters.

  C) To win leadership of the dog pack.

  D) To show their willingness to obey.

  25. When a dog has received effective obedience training, its owner ________.

  A) can give the dog more rewards

  B) will enjoy a better family life

  C) can give the dog more freedom

  D) will have more confidence in himself

Questions 61 to 65 are based on the following passage.

Energy independence. It has a nice ring to it. Doesn’t it? If you think so, you’re not alone, because energy independence has been the dream of American president for decades, and never more so than in the past few years, when the most recent oil price shock has been partly responsible for kicking off the great recession.

“Energy independence” and its rhetorical (修辭的) companion “energy security” are, however, slippery concepts that are rarely though through. What is it we want independence from, exactly?

Most people would probably say that they want to be independent from imported oil. But there are reasons that we buy all that old from elsewhere.

The first reason is that we need it to keep our economy running. Yes, there is a trickle(涓涓細(xì)流)of biofuel(生物燃料)available, and more may become available, but most biofuels cause economic waste and environmental destruction.

Second, Americans have basically decided that they don’t really want to produce all their own oil. They value the environmental quality they preserve over their oil imports from abroad. Vast areas of the United States are off-limits to oil exploration and production in the name of environmental protection. To what extent are Americans really willing to endure the environmental impacts of domestic energy production in order to cut back imports?

Third, there are benefits to trade. It allows for economic efficiency, and when we buy things from places that have lower production costs than we do, we benefit. And although you don’t read about this much, the United States is also a large exporter of oil products, selling about 2 million barrels of petroleum products per day to about 90 countries.

There is no question that the United States imports a great deal of energy and, in fact, relies on that steady flow to maintain its economy. When that flow is interrupted, we feel the pain in short supplies and higher prices, At the same time, we derive massive economic benefits when we buy the most affordable energy on the world market and when we engage in energy trade around the world.

  61. What does the author say about energy independence for America?

  A) It sounds very attractive.

  B) It ensures national security.

  C) It will bring oil prices down

  D) It has long been everyone’s dream.

  62. What does the author think of biofuels?

  A) They keep America’s economy running healthily.

  B) They prove to be a good alternative to petroleum.

  C) They do not provide a sustainable energy supply.

  D) They cause serious damage to the environment.

  63. Why does America rely heavily on oil imports?

  A) It wants to expand its storage of crude oil.

  B) Its own oil reserves are quickly running out.

  C) It wants to keep its own environment intact.

  D) Its own oil production falls short of demand.

  64. What does the author say about oil trade?

  A) It proves profitable to both sides.

  B) It improves economic efficiency.

  C) It makes for economic prosperity.

  D) It saves the cost of oil exploration.

  65. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?

  A) To justify America’s dependence on oil imports.

  B) To arouse Americans’ awareness of the energy crisis.

  C) To stress the importance of energy conservation.

  D) To explain the increase of international oil trade.

“If you think so, you’re not alone”表明作者持有同樣想法,答案往“so”前面找——“Energy independence. It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?” have a nice ring to sth.

定位句本身出現(xiàn)but強(qiáng)調(diào):“but most biofuels are a Faustian bargain, causing economic waste and environmental destruction. ”but后面的`強(qiáng)調(diào)才是作者對于biofuels的真正想法——causing economic waste and environmental destruction。

首句“Americans have basically decided that they don’t really want to produce all their own oil. ”美國人不愿意自己產(chǎn)油,是63題題干信息當(dāng)中“…America rely on heavily on oil imports”的同義改寫。根據(jù)“金三句原則”定位到定位句的下一句“the American people…decided that they value the environmental quality they preserve over their oil imports from abroad. ” 相比從國外進(jìn)口石油,美國人更看重環(huán)境質(zhì)量,由此判斷,答案選C——“keep environment intact”。

解析:64、A 根據(jù)定位詞oil trade以及順序原則定位到文章最后一段。根據(jù)文章主旨和前文內(nèi)容,或者是根據(jù)定位段信息可知“United States imports a great of energy”,讓能源輸出國有利可圖,而同時“At the same time”,美國本身也有自身利益——“we derive massive economic benefits…when we engage in energy trade around the world.”,答案選A——“It proves profitable to both sides”。

由文章末端的結(jié)尾“At the same time, we derive massive economic benefits…when we engage in energy trade around the world.” 答案選A。

Sign has become a scientific hot button. Only in thepast 20 years have specialists in language studyrealized that signed languages are unique—a speechof the hand. They offer a new way to probe how thebrain generates and understands language, andthrow new light on an old scientific controversy:whether language, complete with grammar, issomething that we are born With, or whether it is alearned behavior. The current interest in sign language has roots in the pioneering work of onerebel teacher at Gallaudet University in Washington, D. C., the world’s only liberal artsuniversity for deaf people.

When Bill Stokoe went to Gallaudet to teach English, the school enrolled him in a course insigning. But Stokoe noticed something odd: among themselves, students signed differentlyfrom his classroom teacher.

Stokoe had been taught a sort of gestural code, each movement of the hands representing aword in English. At the time, American Sign Language (ASL) was thought to be no more than aform of pidgin English But Stokoe believed the “hand talk”his students used lookedricher. He wondered: Might deaf people actually: have a genuine language? And could thatlanguage be unlike any other on Earth? It was 1955, wheneven deaf people dismissed theirsigning as“substandard”. Stokoe’s idea was academic heresy

It is 37 years later. Stokoe—now devoting his time to writing and editing books and journalsand to producing video materials on ASL and the deaf culture—is having lunch at a cafe nearthe Gallaudet campus and explaining how he started a revolution. For decades educatorsfought his idea that signed languages are natural languages like English, French and Japanese. They assumed language must be based on speech, the modulation (調(diào)節(jié)) of sound. But signlanguage is based on the movement of hands, the modulation of space. “What I said,” Stokoeexplains, “is that language is not mouth stuff—it’s brain stuff.”

A錯在learning,文章并不是在討論語言的學(xué)習(xí),而是語言的產(chǎn)生和理解;C為簡單原詞干擾D;中的an attempt to clarify misunderstanding是對throw new light on an old scientific controversy的曲解,因為controversy不等于misunderstanding。

題干中的was stimulated相當(dāng)于原文中的has roots in。

(Might deaf people actually have a genuine language?),后者含有一個同位語 his idea that signed languages are natural languages。

D中的only exist in the form of speech sounds是對原文中be based on speech的同義表達(dá)。

D中的a product of the brain是對原文中brain stuff的同義表達(dá)。B中的derived from錯誤,因為Stokoe認(rèn)為sign language就是一種natural language。
