  對(duì)話一

  交通險(xiǎn)況

teacher:: does everyone wear a seatbelt each time they drive or ride in a car?

mike: no. seatbelts are for wimps(古板的人,謹(jǐn)小慎微的人). besides, i'm a great driver.

teacher: the chances of being injured in a car accident this year are 1 in 75. i think that's worth talking about.

lisa: have you ever been involved in an auto accident?

teacher: only once. my car hydroplaned (在積水的路面上行駛)on a rainy night and went off the road. fortunately i was wearing my seatbelt.

lisa: last december my brother died in an accident. he was in the back seat of his friends jeep when it rolled. he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

teacher: fastening your seatbelt should be an automatic thing as soon as you get into your car. but too many people still refuse to wear a seatbelt.

lisa: i wouldn't think of going anywhere without wearing a seatbelt.

mike: it's just hard for me to get in the habit of wearing one.

teacher: all it takes is one close-call (僥幸脫險(xiǎn),死里逃生)and you'll wear your seatbelt. you really ought to think twice about not wearing one the the next time your got in a car. it may save your life.

lisa: the doctors said it would have saved my brother.

  對(duì)話二

  公司戀情

ramone:: hey jen, would you like to go to dinner with me?

jenny: i don't know. you know what they say about office romances.

ramone: no. i don't. what do they say about office romances?

jenny: they say you shouldn't mix love and work.

ramone: that's silly. what i do on my own time is nobody else's business. besides, it pretty hard to meet people outside of the office when we spend long hours here.

jenny: you've got a point. but i once dated one of my supervisors and all of my co-workers accused him of favoritism(偏愛,偏心). then when the relationship went bad, he fired me.

ramone: hey, it's the 90s. people fall in love with people they work with. that's a fact.

jenny: that may be true. but i don't want an inter-office relationship to affect my productivity.

ramone: if it does, it will only make you more productive, because we can support each other.

jenny: you're sounding like we're already married.

ramone: good grief(哎呀,天哪). all i did was ask you out. i'm sorry.

jenny: well, i still don't feel right about it.

ramone: i'm talking about dinner tonight, not a lifetime.

jenny: it starts with dinner, but then it gets out of hand(無法控制). besides, haven't you asked out every woman in the entire office?

  ramone: i like company(我喜歡交際).

jenny: company? i heard about you from linda. she said you were an octopus(用情不專的人)!

ramone: what can i say? i'm a passionate (多情的 )guy.

jenny: well, i hope you can find something else to be passionate about.

ramone: you want to go out with me and you know it.

jenny: in your dreams. now if you don't mind, i've got some work to do.

ramone: okay, i get the message. hey, do you have any sisters?

  對(duì)話三

  粉刺青春

jane:: i have an acne problem. what causes acne?

doctor: acne is caused when skin pours (皮膚毛孔)become clogged with (被...堵塞,被...填滿) dirt. but other factors such as diet and stress have been linked to acne.

jane: i've had pimples (丘疹)for years. is there anything i can do to get rid of them?

doctor: thousands of young people suffer from acne. i can prescribe some medication that will help you.

jane: will this help my oily skin?

doctor: i'll give you a special facial scrub..

jane: how long will it take this stuff to work?

doctor: you should start to see some positive results within a week.

jane: what if it doesn't work?.

doctor: there's a number of things we can try. we can always give you a stronger medication.

jane: did you ever problems with acne?

doctor: when i was in high school i was known as the "acne king"

jane: what did you do about it?

doctor: not much. back then (過去那個(gè)時(shí)候)there wasn't the kind of medicines and treatments as there are now.

jane: did it affect your social life?

doctor: no, i just dated girls who had acne too.
