指導一：
1.generally speaking 通常來講，一般說來
2.occur vi.發(fā)生, 出現(xiàn)
e.g.The accident occurred at five oclock.
事故發(fā)生在五點鐘。
If anything should occur, please inform the local police.
如果發(fā)生什么事情的話,請通知當?shù)鼐臁?/p>
(與to連用)想起;想到
e.g.An idea occurred to me. 我想到一個主意。
The idea never occurred to me. 我從來沒有打過這個主意。
It occurred to sb that ... 剛剛想到...,突然想起
e.g.It occurred to me that he once told me that he had a brother in another country.
It occurred to him suddenly that he could try to escape through the secret path.

exception n.除外, 例外
e.g.Most children like sweets, but there are some exceptions.
大多數(shù)孩子喜歡吃糖果, 但也有一些例外。
We praised them all, with two exceptions.
我們稱贊了所有的人，只有兩個例外。
Theres an exception to every rule.
每項規(guī)則均有例外。
There is an exception to this grammatical rule.
這條語法規(guī)則有個例外。

rather than conj.勝于，而不是
e.g.He prefers to stay at home rather than go to work.
He would like to keep his parents company rather than go sightseeing for his vacation.
5.
minor adj.較小的, 次要的 major
e.g.The young actress was given a minor part in the new play.
這個年輕女演員只分到這出新戲中一個較次要的角色/配角。
Don’t make a fuss; it’s only a minor illness 不要大驚小怪的，只是小病而已。
Don’t worry; he only had a minor injury. 別擔心他只是受了輕傷。

inconvenience n.不便;麻煩
e.g.It often causes a lot of inconvenience when buses come late.
公共汽車晚點時,常常引起許多不便。
I hope it wont cause you too much inconvenience to drive me to the station.
我希望你駕車送我到車站不會使你感到不便。
I’m sorry for having put you into inconvenience.
很抱歉給你帶來很多麻煩。
7.
renew the passport 更換護照
*renew, restore, refresh 都含“恢復”、“更新”的意思。
renew 系常用詞, 指“使已舊或已失去力氣、活力等物變新或復原”, 如:
e.g.I renewed my spirits in the country air.
在鄉(xiāng)村的空氣中我恢復了精力
renew a stock of goods
更新庫存貨物。
restore 指“把用舊、用壞的東西恢復原樣”, 如:
e.g.restore an old castle恢復舊城堡。
refresh 指“使恢復力量、精力”, 如:
e.g.refresh oneself with a cold shower 用冷水浴恢復精神。
passport n. 護照
e.g.school passport登記卡
service passport (visa)公務護照(簽證)
ships passport船舶護照
Hard work was her passport to success.
艱苦的工作是她獲得成功的保證
Quite a number of young people maintain that money is a passport to happiness.
相當一部分年輕人堅持認為金錢是獲得幸福的保證。

9.
rent vt, vi付租金;租用;出租，租出
e.g.My father rents an office in the city.
我父親在城里租了間辦公室。
Is that your own computer, or do you rent it?
這電腦是你自己的,還是租來的?
Would you like to rent a room to Mrs. Smith?
租一間房給史密斯太太
(與at連用)以…出租
e.g.The apartment rents at $2000 a month.
這個單元套房以每月2000美元出租。

subrent n. 轉租租金

adore v.崇拜 敬愛;敬重 非常喜歡
e.g.He adores the cinema.
他非常愛看電影。

6.
clash n&v .沖突, 撞擊聲, 抵觸
e.g.clash of interests 利益沖突
a clash with the police 與警察的沖突
I failed to go to her wedding because it clashed with my examination.
我沒能去參加她的婚禮,因為和我的考試日期沖突了
7.
mandate v&n. 將(某地)委托統(tǒng)治; 托管; 批準, 頒布
e.g.mandate a policy
批準一項政策
The president had a clear mandate to end the war.
總統(tǒng)得到明確的授權結束那場戰(zhàn)爭。
8.
alter v. 改變;變更
e.g.These clothes are too large; they must be altered.
這些衣服太大，得修改。
The design of the electric circuits of the digit-controlled lathe must be altered to meet the new requirement.
這臺數(shù)控機床的電路設計必須改動,以適應新的要求。
The weather alters almost daily.
天氣幾乎天天變化。
9.
enforcement n. 實施, 執(zhí)行
e.g.budget enforcement預算執(zhí)行
seek enforcement of judgment請求執(zhí)行判決
10.
somber adj.陰森的, 昏暗的, 陰天的, 憂郁的
a somber mood.憂郁的情緒
指導三：
1.
abuse n. v. 濫用;妄用
e.g.He was charged with the abuse of privilege. 他被指控濫用特權。
We should feel shamed of abuse of natural resources.
對于濫用自然資源，我們應該感到羞恥。
Keep children free from drug abuse.別讓孩子誤用藥品
ab 前綴表示“不正確的，脫離正軌的”：
abnormal adj.反常的, 變態(tài)的
absonant adj.不協(xié)調的, 不和諧的

inherit vt.繼承, 遺傳而得
heir n.繼承人, 后嗣
e.g.inherit the tradition繼承傳統(tǒng)
The eldest son will inherit the title. 長子將繼承爵位。
A son inherits from his father.兒子繼承父親的遺產(chǎn)。
She inherited all her mothers beauty.
(喻) 她繼承了她母親的全部美貌。
3.
consequence n.結果, [邏]推理, 推論, 因果關系
e.g.As a consequence of being in hospital, Shelly decided that she wanted to become a nurse.
由于在醫(yī)院的緣故，謝莉決定當一名護士。
You should consider the consequences before doing something. 考慮后果
4.
use up v.用完, 耗盡
e.g.What if the water on earth is used up?
We have to find the way out of the forest before our food is used up.
Can you lend me some ink, for mine has been used up?
5.
run out用完, 耗盡
e.g.our food is running out;where can we turn for help?
What will happen if the natural recourses on earth run out?
6.look ahead v.計劃未來, 預測未來
7.global warming 全球變暖
8.ozone layer臭氧層(距地球表面20-40英里, 為同溫層的外緣)
9.
awareness n. 意識, 注意
global awareness 全球意識
political awareness政治常識
tactical awareness戰(zhàn)術意識
10.at least 至少 at most
