奧林匹克圣歌(Olympic Anthem)1896年在雅典第1屆奧運(yùn)會(huì)的開幕式上，國王喬治一世宣布奧運(yùn)會(huì)開幕以后，合唱隊(duì)唱起了一首莊嚴(yán)而動(dòng)聽的歌曲《奧林匹克圣歌》。這是一首古希臘歌曲，由希臘人薩馬拉(Spirou Samara)作曲，帕拉馬斯(Kostis Palamas)作詞，但當(dāng)時(shí)并未確定其為奧運(yùn)會(huì)會(huì)歌。
此后的歷屆奧運(yùn)會(huì)均由東道主確定會(huì)歌，未形成統(tǒng)一的會(huì)歌形式。如1936年柏林奧運(yùn)會(huì)的會(huì)歌是施特勞斯特意為這屆奧運(yùn)會(huì)所作的《奧林匹克之歌》;1948年奧運(yùn)會(huì)則選用奎爾特作曲、基普林作詞的《不為自己而為主》作為會(huì)歌。20世紀(jì)50年代以后有人建議重新創(chuàng)作新曲，作為永久性的會(huì)歌，但幾經(jīng)嘗試都不能令人滿意。
于是，國際奧委會(huì)在1958年于東京舉行的第55次全會(huì)上最后確定還是用《奧林匹克圣歌》作為奧林匹克會(huì)歌。其樂譜存放于國際奧委會(huì)總部。從此以后，在每屆奧運(yùn)會(huì)的開、閉幕式上都能聽到這首悠揚(yáng)的古希臘樂曲。
