英語閱讀:Feelings of joy and thoughts from joy

One of the best experiences during my trip to the US is to have seen artworks of Stella in De Young and MoMA. But today I have some new thoughts when look through the pictures I took. I feel like actually witnessing the connections between things in my life, the inspiration from which is so enjoyable.

I got to know Frank Stella in an optional course. The teacher introduced several modern artists but Stella's 3D painted metal made me remember him. Then it was a giant surprise when I saw those familiar sculptures in SF's museums.

But it never occurred to me until today that I virtually once mimicked him and made a similar structure as my assignment for that course, and my teacher even put it at home as decoration at that time.

I have always hated those optional courses and complained about too much general education in my university. But it gave me the desire to know more about modern art, to dig from Stella to minimalism, and the fortune to have the fantastic "deja vu" in museums.

Yesterday I said to my parents that medicine had no borders among nations, and my mom said "so does art".

General education is something that teaches you much arts, maybe as well as philosophy. Does philosophy have borders? Probably not.

Sometimes I do graphic design via Photoshop for recreation, and I find those kinds of exposure has invisibly increased the variety of my layouts. So...Dose design have borders? Definitely not. And we are greatly encouraged to use design thinking in medicine.

Be exposed to more and learn more—that's the answer from Dr. Andrew Chacko when I asked how to train a more creative mindset, and when I asked how to extract those connections from your memory, he said it came to you spontaneously.

In order to learn English, my high school English teacher required us to recite Steve Jobs's lecture in Stanford Stadium. I forget most of it, but I still have vague memories of the word "dots".

So I googled, and here is the quote—"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever"

It seems that I basically have recited something 2 years ago which solves my curiosity right now. The good way probably is that firstly trust the things we do, then trust the spontaneity of paying off. Just like what Dr. Oshimi has said to me—"just believe in your gut".

Wait, I think I am never a fan of motivational words. But even they are illusory, the connections are real, and it feels so good to visualize and realize the links in your brain palace. But maybe those links need a trigger to emerge, and I can not think of a better one than belief.

  Can you?
