承德避暑山莊(the Chengde Mountain Resort)是淸代皇帝避暑和處理政務(wù)的場(chǎng)所。它的最大特色是山中有園，園中有山。避暑山莊宮殿區(qū)位于湖泊南岸，地形(terrain)平坦，是皇帝處理朝政、舉行慶典和生活起居的地方。整個(gè)山莊東南多水，西北多山，是中國(guó)自然地貌的縮影(microcosm)。山莊整體布局巧用地形，與其他園林相比，有其獨(dú)特的風(fēng)格。山莊的建筑既具有南方園林的特點(diǎn)，又多沿襲北方常用的手法，成為南北建筑藝術(shù)完美結(jié)合的典范。

喜馬拉雅山(The Himalayas)被稱(chēng)為“雪的故鄉(xiāng)”，位于青藏髙原(Qinghai-Ti bet Plateau)的南面，西起帕米爾高原(thePamirs),東到雅魯藏布江(Yariung Zangbo River)大拐彎處。東西長(zhǎng)2450多千米，南北寬200~350千米，平均海拔6000多米。喜馬拉雅山由110多座海拔7000米以上的山峰組成。其中，珠穆朗瑪峰(Mount Qomolangma)海拔8848米，是世界第一高峰，位于中國(guó)與尼泊爾的邊界處。喜馬拉雅山脈是世界上最年輕的山脈，因?yàn)樗嬲霈F(xiàn)也就只有幾十萬(wàn)年的時(shí)間，現(xiàn)在它還在不斷地增長(zhǎng)。
