　　Alaska is known for its dark cold winters and long daylight summers. People venture there for its beautiful scenery， majestic vistas and to witness its spectacular light show virtually every night of the year. "Witnessing the northern lights is spectacular. It's awe inspiring because you can't really explain what they are and why they are there," a visitor said.

　　阿拉斯加以其夜長(zhǎng)晝短的陰冷冬季與長(zhǎng)日照的夏季而著名。人們冒險(xiǎn)來(lái)到這里觀賞它美妙的景色、壯麗的風(fēng)光，并親眼看看一年中幾乎每晚都會(huì)出現(xiàn)的極光奇觀。“目睹北極光宛如身臨仙境，奇幻之至，既興奮又令人敬畏，因?yàn)槟銦o(wú)法解釋它們是何物，為何而來(lái)，”一位游客說(shuō)。

　　In ancient times， mythological gods were credited with this creation. But these mysterious lights get their powerful glow from the same awesome force that gives our planet life.

　　在古代，人們認(rèn)為是傳說(shuō)中的神仙創(chuàng)造了這種景象。但實(shí)際上，這種神秘之光的強(qiáng)度光亮來(lái)自于同樣賦予地球以生命的令人敬畏的力量。

　　The sun is the source of energy for everything on planet earth，all life，all weather，and all activitythat we know. Explosions and solar storms on the surface of the sun send charged particles known as solar winds hurtling towards earth. When they reach the earth's magnetic field the energy is transferred into visual light around the earth's Polar Regions. Realize the earth has magnetic field lines that loop out intospace from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere，arching away from the earth and it is those magnetic field lines that organize the solar storms that cause it to create auroras.

　　太陽(yáng)是地球上萬(wàn)物的能量之源，包括我們知道的所有生命、所有天氣和所有的活動(dòng)。太陽(yáng)表面的爆炸和太陽(yáng)風(fēng)暴，把帶電粒子(即所謂的太陽(yáng)風(fēng))猛烈射向地球。當(dāng)它們到達(dá)地球磁場(chǎng)之后，能量便在地球極圈地帶轉(zhuǎn)化成可視的光線。要知道，地球上的磁場(chǎng)線以環(huán)形在空間從北半球拋向南半球，呈拱形覆蓋于地球上空，而正是這些磁場(chǎng)線對(duì)于太陽(yáng)風(fēng)暴的作用形成了極光。

　　While scientists know the cause of the aurora，exactly how it affects earth is still in question. Though infrared cameras have captured solar storms，the aurora remains a mystery.
