教你一眼認出英語單詞的意思
請大家想一想，英語是誰發(fā)明的？英國人唄！英國人認不認識漢語？不認識！那么英國人在學英語單詞的時候需不需要記住單詞的漢語意思？不需要，英國人的英語課本里根本就沒有漢字，何談記住單詞的漢語意思？那么既然英國人學英語不需要記住(甚至根本就見不到)單詞的漢語意思，那么中國人學英語為什么要去記住單詞的漢語意思呢？這種做法大家不覺得奇怪嗎？
然而由于中國人學英語時都在背單詞的漢語意思，因此大家反而覺不出“背漢字”有什么奇怪的了。其實仔細想一想，這個行為真的很奇怪，奇怪的根源不在于行為本身，而在于中國人普遍不會直接識別英語單詞的意思，因而只好靠漢語符號來機械地幫助記憶英語單詞的意思，這樣去學英語不僅多此一舉，而且必然會陷入苦海無邊的符號記憶災難中。
其實英語單詞和漢字一樣，存在著很多的“偏旁部首”，知道了偏旁部首你就可以根據(jù)它們直接來猜測單詞的意思，雖不說百分之百猜準，但起碼可以猜測個大概，至少在別人告訴過你單詞的意思后你可以恍然大悟地領(lǐng)會它，這樣就可以大大增強你對英語單詞“見字識意”的能力，做到真正認識一個單詞，而把它的漢語意思僅做為一般參考。
舉幾個例子來說吧：
比如單詞representative，請別急著告訴我你認識這個單詞，其實你不見得“認識”這個單詞，你僅是憑著你的記憶力記住了這串英語字母和兩個漢字符號“代表”之間的對應(yīng)關(guān)系，這樣去學英語你會多費勁？下面我來告訴你這個單詞為什么是“代表”的意思。re在英語里是一個偏旁部首，它是“回來”的意思；pre也是一個偏旁部首，是“向前”的意思；sent也是一個偏旁部首，是“發(fā)出去、派出去”的意思；a僅是偏旁部首之間的一個“連接件”，沒了它兩個輔音字母t就要連在一起了，發(fā)音會分不開，會費勁，因此用一個元音字母a隔開一下；tive也是一個偏旁部首，是“人”的意思。那么這幾個偏旁部首連在一起是什么意思呢？re-pre-sent-a-tive，就是“回來-向前-派出去-的人”，即“回來征求

人”，這不就是“代表”的意思嗎！這么去認識一個單詞才是真正“認識”了這個單詞，把它認識到了骨子里。
再舉一個例子吧：psychology。psy=sci，是一個偏旁部首，是“知道”的意思；cho是一個偏旁部首，是“心”的意思；lo是一個偏旁部首，是“說”的意思；gy是一個偏旁部首，是“學”的意思，logy合起來是“學說”的意思。因此psy-cho-logy連起來就是“知道心的學說”，因此就是“心理學”的意思。
依此類推，不多舉例了，我要表達的觀點已經(jīng)清楚了，那就是，不要去死記硬背單詞的漢語意思，而要用識別“偏旁部首”的方法去真正認識一個單詞，真正認識了單詞后，你會發(fā)現(xiàn)單詞表里的漢語翻譯原來其實很勉強，有時甚至根本翻譯不出來，因為漢語和英語是兩種不同的文字體系，兩者在文字上本來就不是一一對應(yīng)的，只背英語單詞的漢字意思是不能真正認識這個單詞的，會造成很多的后續(xù)學習困難，會造成你一輩子看英語單詞如霧里看花，永遠有退不掉的陌生感。
那么接下來的問題是，英語里有多少個“偏旁部首”，怎樣知道和學會它們？回答這個問題時我才發(fā)現(xiàn)中國人對英語偏旁部首陌生的兩個主要原因，一是這些重要內(nèi)容不在學校的英語教材當中，大家在課堂上學不到(這是目前學校英語教材急需彌補的缺陷)；二是少數(shù)書店里銷售的有關(guān)這方面內(nèi)容的書過分復雜化，動轍幾百上千頁，內(nèi)容苦澀龐大，影響了這些常識的普及，使得本來是常識的東西不常識。其實英語里偏旁部首的學名叫“字根”，常用的也就二百多個，它們就像26個字母一樣普通而重要，就像漢語里的偏旁部首那樣普通而重要，它們是學英語第一課里就應(yīng)該學習的重要內(nèi)容，學英語者應(yīng)及早地掌握這些重要的常識，及早地擺脫死記硬背的蠻干狀態(tài)，及早地進入科學、高效的識字狀態(tài)。
